It is with heavy hearts that we announce Steve’s peaceful passing after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Steve is survived by his beloved daughter, Tessa O’Collin; his parents, Raymond John and Norma Ann O’Collin; his sister, Jennifer Bell and brother-in-law, Owen Bell and their children, Christopher, Timothy, Matthew and Kelsey.
Steve was born in Montreal and spent many years in both Quebec and Ontario before moving to BC in 2018. He had a rich and varied career, most recently working at Lee Valley where he found another family amongst his coworkers. Steve had many passions and interests including woodworking, cooking, birds, gardening and photography. He was an avid outdoorsman all his life and loved being in nature. His greatest love was his daughter, Tessa. He was so proud to watch her cross the stage and accept her BSc from the University of Ottawa earlier this spring.
Steve O, as he was affectionately known, was a caring and gentle soul who made friends easily wherever he went. Eternally positive and optimistic, his friendship was a great source of comfort and he will be dearly missed.
Steve loved animals but especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Paws It Forward, a local organization that rescues dogs across Canada and the USA (www.pawsitforward.org).
An informal Celebration of Life will be held at Steve’s favourite local watering hole, McCulloch Station Pub at 2789 KLO Road on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. (Cash Bar/Menu). All friends are welcome. We wish his family in Ontario, and especially his lovely daughter Tessa, lived closer so they could join us.
