It is with great sadness that the family of Gerhard Kordass announce his passing at the Penticton Regional Hospital on October 5th, 2022, just one month shy of his 91st birthday. He will be dearly missed and remembered by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years Gisela, his son Ralph, his daughter Doris, and her husband Robert, his five grandchildren Ashleigh, Barrett, Max, Mercedes, and Marley, their partners, and his great-grandson Rowan.
Gerhard was born on a farm in Ostpreußen, Germany, the oldest son of five children born to Luise and Albert Kordass, and sadly predeceased by his sister Edith in 2017 and his brother Gunter in May 2022. Gerhard’s youngest brothers, Klaus and Wolfgang continue to live with their families in Germany.
Gerhard and Gisela married in 1956 and immigrated to Montreal, QC in 1957, leaving their friends and family in Germany, full of hope for the life they would build together. In 1977, Gerhard and Gisela moved to Penticton, BC where they lived, loved, and laughed for 45 years together.
Gerhard studied and got his papers as a master Pastry Chef in Germany before working as a baker in Canada. He went on to work as a Plant Manager in a foundry (Montreal), owning and managing the Hansel & Gretel Motel (Penticton), and then becoming the Pastry Chef at the Lakeside Hotel (Penticton) for many years before retiring. Gerhard (Opa) your wonderful desserts, Bienenstich, eclairs, and Stollen will be missed!
Camping with friends and family was a favorite pastime Gerhard enjoyed over the years. He loved swimming, reading, world news, and history, and always took pleasure from doing German crossword puzzles.
As per Gerhard’s wishes, there will be no formal services other than private family celebrations of his life.
