In loving memory, of our dear mother, Dorothy June Bandura. She was born June 17, 1940 and passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter at home, on March 2, 2021 at the age of 80 years old after a brief illness with terminal lung cancer.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sandra Dee (Jeff) Hornsby; her son, Benjamin Burton Bandura; her only grandson, Brady Jordan Bandura; two sisters, Linda Glionna, and Yvonne Roberts; and endless nieces, nephews and friends who meant the world to her.
She is predeceased by her husband, Bennie Earnest Bandura; her daughter, Kim Elizabeth Bandura; and her sister, Kay Dynes.
Dorothy was born in Barrhead, AB and completed her schooling in Edmonton later on in life earning her high school diploma at the age of 38. She later went on to become an Administrative Assistant at the Alberta Research Council and the Interprovincial Pipeline company. Her and her younger sister ran their own catering business in Edmonton, planning events for weddings and showers and later ran a cafeteria. She moved to Vernon, BC in 2014 to live with her daughter and son-in-law to enjoy lake life and spent the last 5 years living at Vernon Restholm. She had a passion for cooking, painting, and ceramics and loved to play cards. We remember fondly the endless games of crib we used to play together every morning. She loved to watch her son and grandson play golf, driving around the golf courses cheering them on. She learned to fish and loved our boat rides out on Lake Okanagan where she would use cheese as her bait and would catch endless fish for dinner.
Mom will always be lovingly remembered for the love she so freely shared, for the amazing mother she was, and for the beautiful, gentle, sweet, selfless soul she was who loved her family and dear friends more than anything. Her smile and laugh warmed our hearts. She was our rock, our lifeline, our confidante, our biggest cheerleader in everything we endeavoured to do, she loved us so selflessly and unconditionally, and we always felt safe in her embrace.
We were fortunate to bring Mom home in her final days to be with family and to care for her lovingly the way she always cared for us.
Many thanks to the staff of Vernon Restholm, in Vernon, BC where Mom spent the last 5 years of her life. She loved the fresh homemade cinnamon buns they made her most every morning, the beautiful garden where she spent most of her time with her dear friend Sally, and the many staff who lovingly cared and watched out for her there.
A memorial will be planned later this year hopefully in Alberta where she grew up and raised her family so that we can properly celebrate her life with family and friends.
