A Memory
By Arthur F. Schmid
There comes a time when one must leave,
This world his reward to receive.
And when this time has come for me,
I want to tell you, I am free,
To go to dwell in that far place!!
My God has there a place for me,
To dwell with Him eternally!
I am an ordinary person, possessions have I none;
What I claim mine, belongs to You, my God of life and song.
The many friends that came my way, I thank the Lord of heaven!
And those who crossed my paths at odds, I want you to be forgiven.
The nature was my kingdom here, that creation us did yield,
The mountains, lakes, the gurgling brook, the flowers on the field,
The fruit trees blossoming in spring, bring bounty in the fall!
The shrubs, insects, birds that sing, who praise Thee Lord of all.
Don't mourn for me I rest in peace, my life was full and free,
I had my joy, I shed my tears, now God I come to Thee,
I need no flowers when I leave, I had them as I was,
But grant me one more thing if you please; a memory of who I was.
And when before thy throne I bow, My judgment to receive;
Lord grant that crown for which I fought, Since ever I believed,
Receive me humbled as I come, with Thee I want to dwell;
And all my friends on earth shall know that everything is well.
